My dreams usually start out the same. I’m in my senior year of high school (which in reality was last year) and i am definitely not the most well behaved student. In the dreams i tend to stick up or myself and talk back to the teachers. well the dream usually starts the same, there’s either a concert, graduation, dance showcase, something in the gym that I take part in. I’m not feeling well in the dream or forget a dance so i don’t participate as much as i would like to however i still am doing whatever it is in the gym. Later on at the end of the school day, when it’s dismissal and everyone is roaming the halls i dream that I am the only one who can fly. Finally i’m flying in the halls of the school when i hear shots. Me and everyone run and try to hide. I hide in the scary bathroom where later i am spotted by the shooter but i fly away from him. Then we are all making a run for it outside the school when all I hear are screams and shoots. In the dream i am crying profusely and running as fast as i can. Sometimes I dream that I get shot while other times I dream someone very close to me does and dies. I tend to recognize the school as it is a combination of the high school I previously attended. Sometimes while crying in the dream, i’ll cry in real life and wake myself up. These dreams are very vivid. I wake up in sweat and genuinely scared. I’m the moment i truly believe it’s real and there’s no way in my dream that i feel it is a dream and not real life. I have these so often that It scares me to sleep anymore. now I am a high school graduate and no longer attend high school but I don’t understand why I get these such vivid dreams that I contrôle.
Dreams like the one you've described can be intense and emotionally charged, often reflecting deeper feelings and experiences. Here are some aspects to consider in interpreting your dream:
Setting of High School: Since you recently graduated, this setting may symbolize a transitional period in your life. High school often represents a time of growth, learning, and social dynamics, and dreaming about it could indicate lingering feelings tied to that chapter of your life, including unresolved issues related to identity, acceptance, or fear of judgment.
Conflict with Authority: Your tendency to stand up for yourself and talk back to teachers suggests an exploration of your autonomy and self-expression. This may reflect your desire to assert yourself in life or resolve feelings of constraint.
Participation and Feeling Unwell: The feelings of illness and not being able to fully participate in important events (like dances and concerts) could symbolize anxiety about not living up to your potential or feeling pressure to succeed. It might also express feelings of inadequacy or fear of missing out on significant life experiences.
Flying Symbolism: Typically, flying in dreams can symbolize freedom, empowerment, or escape. In your case, it may represent a desire to transcend your circumstances or a feeling of being different from your peers. However, the contrast of flying combined with the presence of danger may highlight your fears and feelings of vulnerability.
Themes of Violence and Fear: Dreams involving threats, such as shootings, can stem from real-world anxieties or societal fears, especially considering current events concerning school safety. They may reflect feelings of helplessness, fear of loss, or trauma—especially if you've recently encountered stressful situations or major life changes.
Emotional Release: The crying and fear you experience in the dream suggest that these scenarios serve as a release for pent-up emotions or stress. The vividness and intensity of your dreams can reflect the depth of your emotional state.
Control in Your Dreams: The fact you feel some control over aspects of your dream (like flying) indicates a subconscious desire to reclaim power over your circumstances or feelings, particularly in the face of vulnerability or distress.
Real-life Implications: If you're feeling anxious about your dreams or they're affecting your sleep, it might be beneficial to talk to a professional or counselor who can help you navigate these experiences. Particularly vivid and distressing dreams can be a sign to address underlying emotions or stressors in your life.
Overall, your dream seems to be an amalgamation of stress, emotional expression, and a search for autonomy during a period of transition in your life. Exploring these themes intentionally may help alleviate the anxiety and fear these dreams provoke. Consider keeping a dream journal or practicing relaxation techniques before sleep to help manage these vivid experiences.
